摘要

Earlier this year Walkers Crisps became the first major food company to display a label on its products that showed its carbon footprint. The label reveals that each bag of crisps creates 75g of carbon dioxide. Of this, 44 per cent was released duringthe process of growing the potatoes, sunflowers (for the oil) and seasoning. Industry experts are now realising that this sort of carbon labelling will put huge pressures on growers to reduce their carbon footprints. Unless growers can produce carbon-efficient produce, major firms will start looking for alternative sources of supply.
