With an increasing demand for higher quality plants, more nursery stock growers are seeking the benefits of glasshouse structures in addition to the use of polythene tunnels. Glass can bring economic benefits. There may be savings in transport, whilelabour-intensive processes can be rationalised in a large, purpose built structure. And with growing conditions easier to manage, quality is sometimes enhanced. For most nurseries however, the construction of a new glasshouse is a major project and a big investment. In addition, there may be implications for water and other resources when a new facility is brought into use. But it can also mean new opportunities.
