A lack of native fossil fuel resources, in a world where the cost of these continues to rise, concentrates the mind wonderfully. The Dutch nexus of growers, technology firms, research institutes, banks and government departments that drives the glasshouse technology sector has focused its attention lately on ways to make protected growing more energy-efficient. The results, many of which were showcased at October's Horti Fair show in Amsterdam, are nothing if not diverse. And as efficiency was the theme of this year's show, several such products featured in nominations for the prestigious Innovation Award.
