Numerical simulation of piercing in press piercing mill

Results of FEM calculations of piercing process in press-piercing mill have been presented. Calculations were made by using commercial software package MSC SuperForm 2002 and assuming three-dimensional state of strain. The influence of shape of piercing head on the course of piercing process was analyzed. Distributions of forming forces as well as strain fields at longitudinal section of the workpiece were presented. The results of calculations have been compared with results of experimental investigations obtained by Kubinski.
