The discovery of several gas reserves in remote areas (offshore locations) across the globe has increased the demand for the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis that refers to the conversion of synthesis gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen) to liquid hydrocarbons such as diesel and higher hydrocarbons containing more than 5 carbon atoms (C5+). This FT synthesis is a part of the gas-to-liquid (GTL) technology that makes the transportation of these fuels more economical and easily accessible. As such, C5+ hydrocarbons have been in high-demand despite their higher price compared to diesel, making the utilization of FT process even more favorable. However, the lower octane number of these C5+ hydrocarbons produced by this FT process as compared to the crude oil refining has been a major limitation.
