Tremendous research is happening in the fuel cells domain to not only reduce the cost of the catalysts, but also increase the durability of these cells for their usage in automotive applications. Traditionally carbon supported platinum (Pt) and Pt-based alloys (metals such as cobalt, chromium, and iron) have been employed due to their higher actiyity and stability in terms of oxygen reduction rate (ORR).
