摘要

This review focuses on the handling and treatment of tomato fruit for fresh markets, the common causes of direct and indirect losses, and some methods for controlling losses. In the first section, types of injuries and decays common in tomato handling are defined, including a time-line and discussion of recent outbreaks of human disease associated with fresh tomatoes. The next section explores the points at which fruits are susceptible to contamination with plant and human pathogens. Finally, control measures to combat product contamination are discussed.
