SQL or Third Manifesto Compliant Object-Relational Database Management Systems as the Platforms for Maintaining the Whole-Part Relationships in a Database

Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs) that conform to SQL: 1992 or previous SQL standards provide little help for maintaining whole-part relationships in a database. SQL:1999 and SQL:2003 standard specify a data model what has more means for achieving this purpose. DBMSs that use language that conforms to SQL:1999 or SQL:2003 standard are called Object-Relational Database Management Systems (ORDBMSs). The Third Manifesto is thorough revision of the relationl data model. It can be considered to be the manifest about ORDBMSs due to the proposed complex features. We present some possible designs for implementing whole-part relationships in a database what is maintained by the Third Manifesto compliant DBMS. We demonstrate that this kind of systems have more possibilities for maintaining whole-part relationships in a database than ORDBMSs that use SQL language. We also demonstrate that usage of the complex type doesn't make implementation of the whole-part relationships simpler.
