摘要

Magnetically Impelled Arc Butt (MIAB) welding is a solid state welding process finding applications in automobile and processing industries. Being a relatively new process, establishment of process parameters for boiler tube applications is an interesting area for research. Welding Research Institute, BHEL, India has been in the forefront of developing and establishing MIAB welding for boiler tube applications like economizer coils. This paper explores the impact of current through different stages of MIAB welding process and establishes the current parameter for arc stabilisation time. This study was carried out on SA 210 Gr Al steel for fixing the range of stabilisation current for acceptable MIAB welds. Mechanical and metallurgical characterization is done to validate the results of experimentation.
