Most vets work half days

pERRY and I started talking at the ball game concession stand. Our practice had worked for him since my very first week, but I only had been there twice in the last year as other doctors took his work. He queried, "So are you only working a few days a week now?" I replied, "About six and a half," which may be an exaggeration, but it's the same number an associate came up with. Perry probed further, thinking I should slow down because he wanted to. "Full days?" "No, just half days, about 12 hours." Perry seemed unconvinced so he changed the subject to how much he liked the doctor who was doing his herd work. Half time was over, and we returned to the game. Perry thought I had lived one of the delusions that I also had at vet school graduation;either to earn enough money to buy a farm and farm until it was all gone, or to work one less day a week each decade so that, by the age of 80, I'd be down to two days a week. I reflected on our conversation realizing that neither Perry nor I had a goodunderstanding of each other's life.
