Response of Bioregulants on Nutrient Uptake Pattern of Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) cv. BSR 2

Organically grown produce fetches higher price in the international market and there is a great demand all over the world, especially in western countries. Turmeric being a highly unique and export spice and medicinal crop, it is appropriate to enhance organic farming practices to promote NPK content and uptake of the produce. With this review, studies on turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) were carried out at the Nachiar Organic Farms, Pollachi during 2005-2006 to find out the effect of bioregulants on turmeric with reference to NPK content and uptake. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Block Design consisting of four bioregulants viz., Panchakavya, Vermiwash, Humic acid, Effective Microorganism and of recommended dose of fertilizer with 13 treatments. Among the treatments, higher contents and uptake of nitrogen (0.84%, 277.81 kg ha~(-1)), phosphorus (0.22%, 64.27 kg ha~(-1)) and potassium (0.88%, 270.52 kg ha~(-1)) were recorded by the foliar application of 0.05% humic acid (T_6). Lower contents and uptake of nitrogen (0.45%, 0.10 kg ha~(-1)), phosphorus (201.25 %, 35.80 kg ha~(-1)) and potassium (0.56%, 214.20 kg ha~(-1)) were recorded in treatment that received no bioregulants
