Building A Better Herd

These New Mexico Holstein breeders just plain enjoy the dairy business. The challenge of building the best herd they can -for type and production - is what drives their enthusiasm. SEVERAL YEARS AGO a dairy consultant shared an observation with Galen(Butch) Zens on dairy producers. Butch remembers it and enjoys passing it along. The consultant pointed out that different people are in the dairy business for different reasons. Some focus on the amount of daily milk they ship, others are driven by expanding their herd size, yet others like to market cattle.
