Regarding 'The first chemists: An Australian chronicle' [October p. 19, November p. 26, February p. 20], a quick email to thank you for this series. About two years ago I was involved in a survey, conducted by RACI, on the content of the magazine and I came to the conclusion that the magazine as it then was fell between two stools: it was neither a specialised research journal nor, with the exception of a couple of the regular columns, something that a general readership could enjoy in the way that, say, a lay-chemist could enjoy the American Chemical Society's Chemical and Engineering News.
