摘要

The first of these two books, Medicine at the Border, arose from a conference at the University of Sydney in 2004. Its 18 contributors, working mainly in the UK, USA and Canada, approach the subject of border control of health in a variety of settings, drawing on techniques of history, epidemiology and sociology. The result is uneven in quality, but overall is Iively and interesting. Generally the case studies concerning particular diseases (yellow fever in. Cuba and Panama, smallpox in India, HIV and SARS in Canada) are most focused.
