210,000 pounds penalty for crane crush

The death of an electrician crushed by an overhead crane has cost an engineering firm more than 210,000 pounds. Liam O'Neill was working at Assystem UK in Preston, Lancashire, when the incident happened in March 2011. He was replacing a pendant control cable, which connects a handheld control to the crane, after it developed an intermittent fault. HSE investigators found O'Neill got onto a four metre high working platform in the path of the crane, while the power was still switched on.
