FROM their initial pitch to the International Olympic Committee, the organisers of the London Olympic games stressed their intention to ensure the 2012 event would pay back all the resources poured into it with more than just sporting memories. The 2012 team has always made a big play of its intention to leave a legacy, and that means more than just breathing new economic fife into a previously moribund part of the capital and ensuring the games venues can be scaled back after next summer to provide enduring sporting facilities for London rather than the decaying white elephants left by some recent Olympiads.
