Coils toppled like dominoes

THE HSE has prosecuted a haulier after a row of steel coils collapsed on a warehouseman.ABC (Grimsby) employee Alan Burr suffered fatal injuries in January 2010 as he tried to repair some torn polythene on a coil at a warehouse at Immingham Docks in Grimsby.He had been stacking the narrow banded coils on rolls—each measuring about 1.5 metres in diameter and weighing around a tonne — in batches of four or five, with a gap between each coil. As Burr stood between two of the rolls to repair the damaged wrapping, one of them fell, causing a domino effect on the stack. He died at the scene.
