MSD cases leap 30%

New cases of work related illness jumped 18% in the 12 months to April 2014 compared with 2011-12, according to the latest injury and ill health figures published by the HSE (www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/ overall/hssh1314.pdf). Around 184,000 people reported developing musculo-skeletal disorders in 2013-14, 30% more than in 2011-12. Stress related illnesses, which make up the bulk of the rest of the new conditions recorded, were broadly level with two years ago at 244,000. The data comes from the government's Labour Force Survey, which did not gather health data last year.
