LATEST HSE figures show that number and rate of non-fatal injuries at work continued to fall last year. The annual statistics report also reveals a small reduction in reported ill health and a rise in HSE enforcement activity. The figures for the 12 months to the end of March 2011 show that employers reported 115,379 non-fatal injuries to employees, which works out at an injury rate per 100,000 employees of 462.1. Of these injuries, 24,726 (a rate of 99) were major injuries, such as amputations, fractures and burns. In 2009-10, there were 26,268 major injuries, or a rate of 104.8.
