THE OWNER of an East Sussex roofing firm has been jailed for 12 months for the manslaughter of an employee who fell to his death through a rooflight. The jury at Hove Crown Court took eight hours to find both Colin Cooper and his company, Hailsham-based industrial roofing and sheet metal contractor IC Roofing, guilty of the manslaughter of 20-year-old Darren Hoofe. Hoofe fell through a skylight while carrying out roof repairs on a unit at the Bellbrook Industrial Estate in Uckfield on 29 November 2005. He landed six metres below on a concrete factory floor. He suffered severe head and brain injuries and died in hospital the next day.
