Fatal tank blast costs nursery 140k pounds

A Somerset plant nursery has been ordered to pay 140,000 pounds after one worker was killed and three others were seriously injured when a pressure vessel exploded. The tank was one of seven vessels forming part of a gas fired heating system for greenhouses at Cantelo Nurseries' site on Bradon Farm, Isle Abbots, near Taunton. Cantelo had agreed heating system changes with a consultant, but had not planned the timing. When the consultant arrived on site on 11 May 2010, alterations he expected on the vessels had not been carried out, so the company had to start removing rubber bags from inside the tanks straight away.
