In previous articles I have drawn attention to the fact that though we talk about health and safety, the traditional emphasis has been on safety- in spite of the incidence of occupational ill-health significantly outweighing that of physical injury. Within the scope of occupational ill health, a significant proportion results from stress and related psychosocial risks. The latest figures from the Labour Force Survey show that in the UK, for 2011/12, of a total of 1,073,000 cases of work related ill-health, 428,000 (40 per cent) result from these causes.
