Career path: Roland Burberry

Why did you choose a career in health and safety? It evolved, rather than me choosing it. I chose engineering, and health and safety is one of several skill sets I have. But I enjoy it because we make a difference and save lives. What professional qualifications do you hawe? City and Guilds full technical certificate in mechanical engineering and vehicles, a member of the Institute of the Motor Industry and an associate of IIRSM and of IEMA [Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment]. In the MoD [Ministry of Defence] I'm at level C1, which is equivalent in service rank to lieutenant colonel. It's department policy to assign equivalent ranks to civilian staff for MoD policy purposes.
