AN HSE-funded online tool for businesses to benchmark their safety performance has cost the public more than ?5000 for each use, according to according to figures obtained by HSW's sister journal Health and Safety Bulletin (HSB). The HSE has paid approaching 600,000 pounds to set up and maintain the Corporate Health and Safety Performance Index (CHaSPI), which allows larger organisations to assess their performance against their own targets and the aggregated scores of others, free of charge. Users log their data ion measures such as sickness absence and injury rates and the index generates an overall score.
