A PRESTON Crown Court judge has handed down fines and costs of 178 500 pounds to a company director he described as a "greedy and ruthless businessman, with no moral scruples". Construction boss George Ruttle, his firm Chorley-based Ruttle Contracting and a related company all denied failing to protect the health and safety of Shaun Riley, who died when his dumper truck overturned during an "in-house" job. Riley was fatally injured on 10 January 2003 when the Bedford 3000 articulated truck he was driving turned over as he was moving soil during landscaping work on company-owned land at Heskin Hall Farm in Chorley. He died in hospital the next day.
