No charges over Liverpool crane death

THE HSE has decided not to bring any charges over the death of a worker in a crane collapse in Liverpool in January 2007. Zbigniew Swirzynski, a Polish joiner, was killed when a luffing jib tower crane collapsed on a construction site in Liverpool city centre. The crane driver was injured. In July, an inquest into Swirzynski's death recorded a verdict of accidental death. On 17 October, the HSE said there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against any of the parties investigated, including the crane manufacturer, the crane hirer, the principal contractor, the subcontractor using the crane and the crane driver.
