A STRATEGIC motivator this year will undoubtedly be the debate on the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Bill. When and if it becomes enacted it will have a big influence on businesses, reminding them of the importance of day-to-day management and making sure the systems are robust, up to date and effective. Many companies that have electronic reporting systems have inbuilt feedback loops to ensure that there is a response to any adverse report. It will be important to ensure that there is evidence that they have taken any actions required. If businesses have records that show they were alerted to a problem and didn't do anything, they will be left seriously exposed.
