摘要

EMPLOYERS must supply safety footwear to workers who are employed in an hazardous environment, under The Personal Protective Equipment At Work Regulations 1992. Workers face hazards, such as rolling or falling objects, upturned nails, as well as electrical hazards and slippery surfaces, that employers should try to eliminate at source. The role of personal protective equipment is to minimise exposure to specific occupational hazards - safety footwear does not guarantee total protection. There are 2 major categories of work-related toot injuries. The first includes foot injuries from punctures, crushing, sprains, and lacerations and accounts for 10 percent of all reported disabling injuries. The second group of injuries includes those resulting from slips, trips and falls, accounting for 15 percent of all reported disabling injuries. Slips and falls do not always result in a foot injury but lack of attention to foot safety plays an important role in their occurrence.
