Concern over ammonium nitrate storage triggers rethink of law

The Health & Safety Commission proposes lowering the notification threshold for ammonium nitrate following an explosion at the Grande Paroisse/AZF Factory in Toulouse last year. An investigation into the blast at an ammonium nitrate stack on 21 September 2001 has shown that a major accident could be caused by a smaller amount of ammonium nitrate than was previously thought.
