摘要

STRESSED workers are more likely to make serious errors at work, according to research just published by the Work-Life Balance Centre at Keele University. Almost one in five employees reporting stress admits to making serious errors, including mistakes with significant safety implications The errors reported by employees range from legal and financial ones, through to IT mess-ups, but it is the health and safety confessions that provide the most shocking evidence of the link between, in particular, fatigue and safety. The research uncovered 13 incidents of unsafe driving, six incidents involving train operations, and damage to an air- craft. Workers reported they: "fell asleep at wheel whilst driving after doing three 18-hour days"; "fell asleep driving a train, almost missing a red signal"; and "crashed an overhead crane".
