FLUORESCENT or reflective decals or material on a motor cycle rider's clothing significantly reduced the chance of death or serious injury by one-third, according to research published recently in the British Medical Journal. The New Zealand researchers' study included 463 motorcyclists who had been involved in crashes that lead to hospital treatment or death. The control group comprised 1233 motorcyclists randomly selected from roadside surveys during the same period of the study and in the same region; the authors are aware that the results may not be applicable to other situations.
