Tackling one million workplace injuries in Italy

Three people die everyday in Italy because of occupational hazards and there are almost one million workplace injuries a year. How to reduce these appalling figures was the focus of visitors and exhibitors at Sicurtech Expo 2003, writes Isobel Allen. The government sponsors and industry promoters of the health, safety and environment events accepted the recent rise in work-related accidents was due, in part, to the increase in the employment figures and number of insured workers but they were concerned that the figures - which do not include death and injuries from work-related disease - were far too high.
