摘要

One-dimensional (1D) nanostructures with lateral diameter of less than ≈ 10 nm that are quantum confined in two of their dimensions are of substantial interest in both fundamental studies and technological applications. Although over the past few years several important strategies have been developed for the preparation of 1D, nanostructured materials such as semiconductor nanorods and nanowires, the yielded 1D structures often have too large diameters to exhibit the quantumconfinement effect and it remains an intriguing and ongoing challenge to exploit reliable, reproducible and simple methods for the bulk synthesis of high-quality semiconductor nanorods or nanowires with their short axes in the quantum-confined size regime.
