Welcome address of the President of the Argentine Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN) to participants of the 12th Coordination and Planning Meeting of WHO-REMPAN, 15-17 October 2008, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Dear colleagues and friends from all over the world, I am pleased to welcome you to this 12th Meeting of the World Health Organization Radiation Emergency Medical Preparedness and Assistance Network (WHO-REMPAN) to this city of Buenos Aires. We are very grateful to WHO and to the Government of the City of Buenos Aires for making this meeting possible.As you very well know, REMPAN was established in 1987 in order to fulfill WHO's responsibility under the international Conventions on Assistance in Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency. In the 20 years since its inception REMPAN has expanded from 4 to 40 medical and research institutions specializing in diagnosis, monitoring, do-simetry, treatment, and long-term follow-up of radiation injuries, acute radiation syndrome, internal contamination, and other radiopathology.
