Daimler Hopes New Models Relieve Company from Emissions Fines

A Daimler executive reportedly said at last week's North American International Auto Show in Detroit that its new models will reduce the fines it pays for violating the federal fuel economy standard to almost zero dollars.Daimler executive board member Thomas Weber told Dow Jones that while the company's large sport utility vehicles held a large share of the company's U.S. sales, Daimler's Smart minicars as well as a new, fuel efficient generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will help bring the fines it pays for violating the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards to almost zero.
