Inhibition of carbon steel corrosion in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution in the presence of some polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters (Tween compounds) is studied by weight loss and galvanostatic polarization measurements. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing surfactant concentration and decreasing temperature. The inhibiting effect of the investigated compounds is explained by their adsorption on the metal surface. The adsorption process is described by a Langmuir isotherm. The effect of rising temperature on the steel corrosion rate in the absence and in the presence of the inhibitors is investigated. Some thermodynamic corrosion parameters are calculated.
