Warmer weather failed to stimulate demand for gasoline in January. Industry statistics showed gasoline deliveries, a measure of demand, declined by a modest 0.2% during the month, according to the American Petroleum Institute (API). Economists at API called the downturn "a bit surprising" given unusually favorable driving conditions.
