U.S. spot prices for alkylates jumped over the week, with U.S. Gulf Coast production still feeling the effects of Hurricane Ike on the area's electricity and infrastructure. Spot prices for benzene rose 3% to about $4.23/gal, while spot toluene prices also increased by 3%, to about $3.53/gal. Spot xylene prices fell 11%, however, due to falling prices for isomers, according to Chemical Week. Meanwhile, spot MTBE prices were up 5￠ to about $3.00/gal, while U.S. spot ethanol prices were down 5￠, to average around $2.03/gal.
