The U.S. spot price for benzene fell below $1/gal last week, as crude futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) closed Friday to its lowest level since Dec. 10, 2004.Benzene spot prices were around 90¢/gal, down about 20% from the prior week, while NYMEX crude fell $8 over the week to $40.81/bbl, on the news that half a million jobs were cut in the U.S., according to the U.S. Labor Department.
