The House energy bill also calls for the first meaningful increase in fuel efficiency standards in more than 30 years. After some negotiation, both parties agreed on creating a dual standard for fuel economy, which would allow U.S. automakers to apply lower Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) requirements to light trucks than for cars.
