EPA's Final Mobile Source Air Toxics Rule Sets Upper Cap on Gasoline Benzene Content

The U.S. EPA Friday issued a final rule controlling mobile source air toxics. The rule limits the benzene content of gasoline to an annual refinery average of 0.62 vol% beginning in 2011.EPA also set a maximum average standard for refineries of 1.3 vol% benzene beginning July 1, 2012, explaining that the maximum standard acts as an upper limit on gasoline benzene content when credits are used to meet the 0.62 vol% standard.
