Textile and clothing exports from EU countries to countries outside the EU increased in value by 3.5% to Euro44.53 bn (US$49.38 bn) and in volume by 1.9% to 4.94 mn tons in 2015. Within these totals, exports of textiles rose by 3.2% in value and by 2.0% in volume while exports of clothing rose by 3.9% in value and by 0.4% in volume. However, textile production fell marginally during the year after rising a year earlier while clothing production continued to decline and reached its lowest level in several years. Within the EU, the largest exporter of textiles in 2015 was Germany, followed closely by Italy. The largest geographical market for EU textile exporters was the USA, followed by China and Turkey. In clothing, the largest exporter was Italy, followed at some distance by Spain, France and Germany. The largest geographical market for EU clothing exporters was Switzerland, followed by the USA, Russia and Hong Kong.
