C. Kallesoe, J. Aarestrup and K. Rokkjaer of Grundfos analyse the control and design of booster sets from an energy perspective. They investigate how the structure and control can be used to minimize energy consumption, and demonstrate that equally sized pumps equipped with speed control and running at the same speed are a safe design choice. Booster sets are a combination of several parallel-connected pumps, often assembled from production, such that the whole set is connected to the application via only two hydraulic connections (Figure 1). This makes it possible to test the system as a whole before it leaves the factory. The solutions are therefore often much cheaper in terms of installation costs and the customer receives a reliable pump system with very few problems and faults during installation and commissioning.
