The Ashkelon seawater desalination plant is the largest of its kind in the world. Here we look at the main features of the plant and in particular the role played by Sulzer Pumps in its successful operation. Changing climatic conditions, population growth and the resulting development of existing limited natural supplies all lead to pressure in the supply chain of clean drinking water. A new approach was made to an established technology of turning seawater into drinking water, which led to a marked reduction in the supply costs. Sulzer Pumps has played a key role in the successful development and commissioning of the ground breaking Ashkelon desalination plant, the world's largest reverse osmosis seawater desalination installation.
