The Caspian Sea has long been regarded as one of the world's major reservoirs of untapped oil and gas reserves. Ever since the break-up of the Soviet Union, multinational companies and oil conglomerates have been developing the area to increase its already considerable supply to oil-hungry economies in the developed world. This ever-increasing industrialisation has lead to many lucrative supply deals for companies in the pump industry, the latest of which involves the installation of four huge new centrifugal horizontal barrel casing injection pumps, with eight separate stages, at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli offshore oilfield (ACG) in Azerbaijan.
