Ocean bottom node technology (OBS) has found its way into the geophysical industry and is used for mapping sedimentary basins, and also crustal conditions in complex tectonic areas. Particularly in sub salt and sub basalt mapping, node technology has the advantage over streamers due to the possibility to create seismic arrays of variable length for accurate velocity mapping. PS converted phases can also be recorded by the horizontal components of the nodes, providing shear wave velocity information. Velocity models derived from OBS observations can be used in processing MCS data or in PSDM of MCS and OBS data simultaneously. GeoPro, based in Hamburg Germany, was established in 1994, and specializes in both active and passive seismic surveys. GeoPro has developed a new OBS recording 4 seismic channels, three geophones and one hydrophone.
