In-pit Crushing and Conveying (IPCC) - Projects in Chilean copper-mining operations as exempli-by the Los Pelambres opencast mine

For several years now, RWE Power International - RE GmbH has been carrying out consulting and engineering projects in Chilean copper-mining operations. The Company's operational know-how in belt-conveyor-based materials handling is in great demand -from planning, designing, and tendering activities through the purchasing of necessary components to the commissioning, operation, servicing as well as maintenance of systems. In a first step, this paper will describe and categorise the IPCC methods, taking account of advantages and limits. In a next step, the Los Pelambres opencast mine will be used to outline the measures that have resulted in a significant increase in the installed system's capacity. For years, the downhill high-performance belt-conveyor system has also been reliably supplying the operations with energy. It is a reference project beyond Chile's borders.
