摘要

Approximately 560 km of mine dump slopes at residual open-pit craters in the Lusatian and Central German lignite mining district are vulnerable to settlement flow and,thus,are a threat to public safety.Sliding due to settlement flow is caused by the liquefaction of loosely bedded sands saturated with water.These sands are primarily characterized by a very uniform grain distribution and well rounded grains.Settlement flow slides occur suddenly.They do not give any previous warning signs of sliding such as,for example,the formation of cracks;and they set large masses of loose rocks in motion within a very short period of time.Settlement flow sliding is the most dangerous form of sliding at mine dump slopes.
