New generation of silica-encapsulated ultramarine blues - high performance pigments for coatings

Ultramarine blue (PB 29) has some outstanding technical characteristics including the uniqueness of its reddish undertone, which cannot be replicated by any other pigment or combination of pigments. It is easy to disperse and wet. It has high light fastness, heat resistance, solvent and alkali fastness and shows no metamerism. However, it has never been considered a high performance pigment because of its poor weather fastness, which results from its poor acid resistance.
