Various coatings, including epoxy-based coatings and polyvinyl chloride-based coatings, have been used to protect the interior of food and beverage cans from corrosion. There are concerns regarding the recycling of polyvinyl chloride, about the use of epoxy-functional plasticisers and the presence of residual unreacted monomers such as bisphenol A. There is therefore a need for food and beverage can liners substantially free of these materials, but still able to provide resistance to degradation from acid media (resulting from tomato-based products and soft drinks).
